Hello Michagoans!
This is a reminder that we are planning to have the discussion as requested by many of you and hopefully some decisions on the Short-Term Rental (STR) issue in Michago at our annual meeting July 5th, 2025.
To be blunt, we have a small minority of Michago members who are violating the current Michago bylaws by running businesses. We could simply shut them down; however, we have been trying to work towards a solution that works for everyone. It is 2025 and not 1965 any longer and times change.
We want to get the issue under control before it gets out of hand. We can share many articles from other communities and associations in West Michigan stating how important this is if we want to maintain Michago as it has always been quiet, peaceful, laid back and neighborly.
The board feels strongly that if we do the following 3 things the issue will be under control and workable for most if not all members.
1. Prohibit renting for 3 years following an external sale.
2. Cap the number of weeks a member can rent their cottage to __ weeks per year. (number to be voted on at the annual meeting)
3. Update the by-laws to reflect these changes.
Attached you will find a copy of the email sent by the Michago Board of Trustees on December 5th, 2024, summarizing and providing some perspectives on STR’s in Michago. Please review it prior to our annual meeting.
